The job interview is one of the most important parts of finding a new job. If your CV catches the recruiter’s eye, the recruiter will call you in for an interview. One meeting could be the key to your dream job, so it’s important to make a good first impression. How to avoid needless misunderstanding that could reduce your chances of success? Let’s take a look at the most common mistakes that candidates make at interviews and how to avoid them.

Don’t come earlier than 5 minutes before the agreed-upon time

It’s very common for stressed out candidates to show up at their interview way too early and then demand the potential employer’s attention before the planned interview time.

This minor detail may have a huge impact on the first impression you make on your potential employer. The employer may be dealing with other matters or just preparing for the interview. Therefore, we recommend coming only a few minutes before the agreed-upon time. If you’re running late for the interview or if you don’t intend on coming at all, contact the HR manager and apologize.

Remember who your contact person is

It’s also unpleasant if you forget to jot down the name of your contact person and the person at the front desk has to find out, who the mysterious potential boss may be. Therefore, always remember the name of the person, who called you in for the interview. In the case of a recruitment agency, you should obtain information about who the interviewer will be, so you should ask for this person once you get to the company.

Find out about the company and the position

Another major problem may be if the HR manager asks you a normal question but you can’t answer it because you don’t know the right answer. Don’t forget to find out more about the company you’re applying to. In addition, don’t forget the requirements for the position you are interested in. You can print out the job description, bring it with you and refer to it during the interview. If you’re sending out more CVs, it’s easy to get the companies mixed up. Therefore, we recommend doing your homework. Nothing leaves a better impression than if you know what the company’s plans are and where it is heading.
