Social platforms are an integral part of our daily lives and the labour market has obviously adapted to it. Therefore, it is currently possible to find new job opportunities on social platforms. Whether it be Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, most companies and recruitment agencies have their profiles on social media. In order to simply the search for your dream job, here are five tips that can help you find a new job on social platforms.

1. Have a profile that represents

Let’s start with the very basics, which is to have a good profile on  Facebook. The profile should at least include information about the place, where you live. If your profile includes this information, targeted ads will start popping up that are for example targeted towards people from the Olomouc Region. If you want to remain hidden, don’t worry about the profile picture all that much. This should not harm your chances. Your CV includes your photo anyways, so you better start taking that into consideration. Obviously, the higher the position, the higher the chances of your employer seeing your profile. However, some employers could care less about your profile. It all depends on the specific company. LinkedIn is even more business oriented because it even includes your work experience and level of education achieved. On the contrary, you don’t have to worry about Instagram too much.

2. Be cautious of who sees your posts!

Now that your page is updated and personalized, let’s move on to the content that your share on the network. You can obviously post whatever you want on your profile, however, if you are looking for a job using Facebook, you should slightly modify your content. This can be done by changing the settings to specify who can see your profile.  If you’re unsure of whether or not the post you have shared can harm your chances of looking for a job, click on “friends only” and that takes care of that worry. You can use the “view as” icon to check your profile. Once you click on this icon, you will see your profile the way your future employers see it. Based on our experience, we don’t turn applicants down because of the content they have posted on their network. However, your profile is your first impression, so you should keep that in mind. On the other hand, we know of a company, which checks social media profiles of all its candidates to get as much background information on them as possible. LinkedIn assumes that you want to use its profile to present yourself to the employer, so it does not have this setting option. However, the user policies are different on this network.

When a lady (let’s call her Mrs. Žabičková) came in for an interview, we were surprised by her appearance. While her bio photo was very formal, she opted for a very extravagant outfit for the actual interview. We found this intriguing, so we checked her Facebook profile, where we came across some very vulgar and shocking posts. Consequently, we recommended that Mrs. Žabičková slightly modify her content, since it is public and for everyone to see.

This is exactly the kind of situation you can avoid simply by clicking on the “friends only” icon.

3. Join a group with job postings

Now you’re all set for the right way to “job-hunt!“ You first have to joins groups, where job opportunities are posted on a daily basis. All you have to do is enter: “Jobs in your town or the surrounding area” in the search window and you will most likely find more than one such group. Then, just scroll through the dozens of vacant jobs whenever you have time.

4. Follow recruitment agencies

Recruitment agencies can also help you look for jobs. Many of them are on social media, where they not only share vacant jobs but also other interesting content. Simply click on “follow” on Facebook and Instagram. This gives you the chance to learn more about the recruitment agency even before you actually start cooperating with them. That’s definitely worth it, right?

5. Advertising will help you!

If you don’t share jobs opportunities using ads, do you even know what Facebook is? Ads on this network have proven to be effective several times, helping several people find great jobs and several factories find ambitious workers. Therefore, don’t forget to check out the ads that pop up on Facebook sooner or later. You often come across companies in your area that you had no clue even existed! However, let us remind you of the first point again because when you respond to an ad via messenger, it’s very easy for the employer to access your profile to find out who he’s dealing with.
