For many of us, a job interview can definitely be a nerve-wrecking experience. You only get one chance to make a good first impression, so everyone obviously tries their best to look good. One question that runs through our mind before a job interview is what to wear. How to avoid mistakes and unnecessary setbacks? Here are a few tips.

When picking out clothes for a job interview, we generally focus on the type of position and atmosphere of the workplace. Therefore, the best thing to do is learn as much as possible about the given company.. This information also comes in handy during the personal interview. This information will also help you decide on whether to wear a suit or just a long-sleeve shirt. Some clothes are suitable when applying for office jobs and other clothes are appropriate when applying for factory jobs. Nevertheless, make sure your clothes are clean, fit you well and make you feel comfortable. In addition, make sure your outfit matches.

Which clothes to definitely avoid?

  • Shirts with large print
  • Tank tops
  • Shorts
  • Sandals
  • Sweatshirts
  • Revealing clothes

This is also known as a dress code. The dress code helps you pick out what to wear. There are three types of dress codes to choose from when attending a job interview:

Smart casual

You won’t go wrong with these kinds of clothes when applying for creative positions, specialized positions as well as blue-collar positions. We recommend men wear long sleeve or short sleeve shirts, polo shirts and dark coloured pants. You can’t go wrong with a sweater or jacket either. However, choose darker colours and subtle patterns, Try avoiding tank tops or open-toed shoes in the summer. We recommend women wear cardigans, jumpsuits, skirts or jeans with a nice top.

Business casual

Here, the motto is:” comfortable, yet elegant.” This dress code is suitable for people applying for positions in the education or financial sectors. It tends to be more formal than the fore-mentioned. Men should wear a shirt and jacket and women should wear a blouse, jacket, skirt, high heels and matching accessories. Keep in mind that the skirt shouldn’t be shorter than knee-length.

Business formal

This is the most formal kind of dress code and is commonplace for lawyers. This dress code is suitable for candidates applying for managerial or leadership positions. Men should wear formal pants, a shirt, tie, jacket and loafers. We also recommend accessorizing with a leather belt or briefcase. Women should wear a formal dress suit or pencil skirt, closed-toe shoes and elegant accessories. Go for darker, subtle colours in both cases.
